During the early stages of JESIP, we needed to collate current levels of knowledge and understanding amongst emergency services staff about how well emergency services work together (interoperability). We were particularly interested in the experiences of operational and control room staff who have been involved in major or complex incidents.
We carried out an online survey facilitated by Skills for Justice, Sector Skills Council for Fire and Rescue Services and the Police and Law Enforcement agencies. This survey helped to provide us with the intelligence we needed to inform our joint working guidance (Joint Doctrine) and the resultant training and awareness packages.
Following publication of Joint Doctrine and subsequent training across a number of services, we repeated the survey a year later to gauge progress. The reports for both survey 1 and 2 are available to download below:
