Switch Handset ON/ OFF

Switch Handset ON

  • Press and release the Mode button
  • Enter PIN
  • Press Green key or Confirm Context key

Switch Handset OFF

Press and hold Mode button until terminal displays 'Switching Off'

CAUTION: Handset locks after three incorrect PIN entries.

Change Talkgroup

  • Select the Mode button
  • Type in the talkgroup number you require using the Keypad, then
  • PTT (Short Cut)

Or

  • Select T.Group Context key
  • Scroll through the talkgroup folders utilising up/down navigation key and then turn Navi-Knob to select the desired talkgroup

Make/Receive Calls

Make Calls

Point-to-point (i.e.one-to-one)

  • Dial the ISSI number
  • Select the radio icon
  • Press the PTT to speak

Group Call

An open speech call that is transmitted to everyone on the selected talkgroup

  • Check that the correct talkgroup is selected
  • Press the PTT key to transmit

Telephone (i.e.one-to-one)

  • Dial the phone number prefixed by 9
  • Select the telephone icon
  • All the terminal to ring- carry on as if your using a mobile

Note: You cannot accept inbound telephone calls

Receive Calls

Point-to-point (i.e.one-to-one)

Radio vibrates, bleeps & displays 'individual Call'

  • Press PTT, pause momentarily and then speak to accept the call
  • Identify yourself using the call sign, then release PTT

Group Call

An open speech call that is transmitted to everyone on the selected talkgroup (radio channel)

Only the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) can initiate point-to-point calls between EOC and crew.

Contact EOC routinely via RQS (Request to Speak)

  • Press and hold Hot key 1
  • Check 'Delivered RQ Speech' is displayed

If not, press Hot key 1 again until it is displayed.

  • Wait for EOC to call back by individual call (Your request is queued, so EOC may not respond immediately)
  • Receive call as described under 'Receive Calls'

Contact EOC with piority message (crew not in danger)

  • Press and hold the # key
  • Check 'Delivered Priority RQS' is displayed (Your request is queued, but at a higher priority so EOC should respond immediately)
  • Receive calls as described in the 'Receive Calls'

EMERGENCY Button

This button should only be used if you are at risk

  • Press and hold the EMERGENCY button for 2 seconds
  • State your location and circumstances if possible
  • Clear by pressing the Red key

Pressing the EMERGENCY button gives an open microphone for 12 seconds and priority on the talkgroup.

CAUTION: EMERGENCY button is not functional if there is no signal (not on network).

SETTING UP A MULTI-AGENCY TALKGROUP

Contact your control room to request an incident command multi-agency talkgroup (specify which services are required).

Your control room will allocate you a talkgroup.

Switch a handset to the allocated talkgroup.

If you wish to monitor another talkgroup a second handset is required.

Carry out a test call to other agencies to confirm set u.p

Before you leave the multi-agency talkgroup you must inform members of the talkgroup and your control room.

USING MULTI_AGENCY TALKGROUP

  • Do use clear and unambiguous speech
  • Check understanding
  • Use clear common understandable roles e.g. police incident commander
  • Multi-agency talkgroups are not for individual service working but for incident commanders' communication across the services

Consider offering any spare handsets to other responder agencies who are part of the response to aid communication and coordination.
